Spherical Roller Bearings

Spherical roller bearings are self-aligning bearings with two rows of barrel-shaped rollers. The curved raceway inside the outer ring allows the bearing to accommodate limited angular misalignment between the shaft and housing. These bearings are designed to carry heavy radial loads and can also support axial loads in either direction, within the limits of the specific model.

Spherical Roller Bearing Load Capacity and Applications:
Spherical roller bearings are often selected when a shaft carries a heavy load and may bend slightly during operation. For example, a loaded conveyor pulley can deflect under belt tension. A spherical roller bearing can accommodate some of that angular movement, provided it stays within the limits for the bearing and its mounting arrangement.
Typical applications include conveyor pulleys, crushers, vibrating screens, industrial gearboxes, rolling mills and paper machinery. Each application places different demands on the bearing. A vibrating screen, for example, may require a bearing designed specifically for vibration, even when a standard bearing has the same dimensions.

Spherical Roller Bearing Types: Bore, Sealing and Internal Clearance:
Spherical roller bearings come with either a cylindrical or tapered bore. Match the bore to the shaft seat: a tapered-bore bearing can be mounted on a tapered seat or, in a suitable arrangement, on a cylindrical shaft using an adapter sleeve. Depending on the range, bearings are available in open, sealed or metal-shielded designs. Before ordering a replacement, check the bearing width, the protection needed against dust and debris, and the lubrication and operating limits of the chosen design. Match the internal clearance class specified for the equipment, such as Normal, C3 or C4, because the mounting fit and operating temperature affect the clearance in service.
