What it is
Adapter sleeves are the most commonly used components for placing a tapered-bore bearing onto a cylindrical seat. Each sleeve has an axially slotted body with a cylindrical bore, a tapered outside surface, and a male thread at the narrow end used with a lock nut and lock washer or retainer. Also called pull-type sleeves, they fit smooth or stepped shafts, are easy to mount, and need no extra location on the shaft. On stepped shafts with an abutment ring, the bearing can be positioned accurately and dismounting is made easier.
